Interviews: GORELORD INTERVIEW WITH FREDIABLO
InterviewsHere is a bomb again and this time we made an interview with the bloody lord of Norway! With the project called "Gorelord" from 1999 till today, he was a man inspired from horror movies who showed one of the most dirty, perverted, hellish music in the world. And he has also been in many Exteme Metal project till now and today he pursue with only Gorelord. After read the interview you will understand that he quit his old crazy life...

Frediablo as "Gorelord" after 2006's "Norwegian Chainsaw Massacre", he is coming with fourth studio album called "Chapter IV - Hellbound" soon and he will frighten us again and this time he characterize his music as "Groove Infested Horrorcore". Here is the interview with Frediablo "Gorelord" from Morbidzine;

MORBIDZINE: Hails to Norwegian Lord of Gore from Turkey! Before asking questions, Frediablo we thank you so much for this interview by all Turkish Gore/Extreme music fans. New studio album called "Chapter IV - Hellbound" will be released soon. How will you frighten us this time? Could you tell us new album's story?

FREDIABLO: Hails to all mad men, boys, little and large girls in Turkey!! On Chapter IV – Hellbound I’ve taken on a slightly different musical skin. It’s mostly downtuned ugly groove infested horrorcore, but it’s also more melodic. I quickly realized while writing songs for Chapter IV, that it took a slightly different path than what I myself expected…. but a better one as far as I’m concerned. The songs are stripped down and in your face! Pissed off one minute, and melodic another. It’s like I’ve always said before… music to me is all about contrast. I have no desire to write another album like Force Fed On Human Flesh. Personally I hate that album, cause it’s so one dimensional and also extremely poorly produced and musically executed. I have matured a lot since back then (1999), and hopefully the songs on the new album can somewhat reflect that.

MORBIDZINE: We know Frediablo's world is horror, roughly I can say you are always watching horror movies, drinking alcohol, weed etc. and finally creating sick/gore/unholy themes which are inspired from movies, playing raw/satanic/killer music. Have this lifestyle been since your childhood?

FREDIABLO: My life today is extremely different than what it was back when I started this project. Back then I was all about shocking people, drinking and smoking weed and creating generic music glased with idiotic lyrical ramblings, but now… hell… I haven’t smoked weed in ages, and can honestly say, hands down that I have taken my last puff ever of that shit! I have no use for weed, and come to think of it, I never had. Looking back it was all a dumb fucking mindfuck. I like to keep my lungs clean of any poison these days. I work out every day and try to eat healthy. I’m not a young kid anymore you know. I still abuse alcohol from time to time, but not like I used to before. I can feel the after effects more now, and it’s just not worth it. I’d much rather spend time with my girlfriend and the few real friends I have, work out, spend time outside, watch movies etc, than getting drunk and wasting my life away you know. That shit still happens, but on a much smaller scale, and it feels great as fuck!

When it comes to movies…. hell… I haven’t watched a horrorfilm in a long time. What I’m into these days are TV series. The Sopranos, OZ, Six Feet Under, Curb Your Enthusiasm, Deadwood, Carnivale, Desperate Housewives, The Office (UK version only) etc… Me and my girlfriend can live in bed for days wathing whole seasons straight through.

As far as Satan goes…. Well, I’m probably as satanic as the local fish dealer down at the docks! Like I said before… I used to write lyrics to shock, but they were never a reflection on how I was or am as a person. It’s just like a film. It’s fiction. It’s not real. Fuck satan!! Fuck religion entirely! It’s the root of all evil! My lyrics these days does not even touch upon the subjects of satan or any of that shit! It’s horror combined with personal stuff.

MORBIDZINE: You worked with Mirai for some instrumentals after Necrophagia again, what has he brought to band in your opinion? Do you think working with him on next albums again?

FREDIABLO: Mirai is great! I asked him if he wanted to contribute with a short instrumental piece for the new record, and he said yes…simple as that. It’s just a short intro. Very atmospheric and old school sounding. It’s great, and I’m always happy to have Mirai on board.

MORBIDZINE: Which horror movies are inspirers for new album as lyrical theme or samples in music? And is there a concatenation or different stories in every song?

FREDIABLO: No specific movies has inspired me this time around. Like I said. This album is more about me combined with elements of horror. It’s a natural progression of how my life has changed, and I could no longer write the way I did before. It would be forced and fake. It would be easier to write like I used though, cause it takes no guts or even intelligence, but it would not be me. The name Gorelord does not mean I write about horror and gore only. It’s just a part of my life, but there is also so so much more than that. There will be samples here and there, but just to spice shit up!

MORBIDZINE: We heard there is a song called "Horror Vs Hell", we wonder what's the main theme of this song?

FREDIABLO: Horror Vs Hell is about the past and what my musical substance, or “lack of” used to be about. It’s easy to come up with some half ass lyrical bullshit about zombies or satan, but I no longer have that desire. There was no substance. The shock value is dead to me. I just wanna create music based on groove, brutality and emotions, with more horror influenced and personal lyrical additions. I’m not the young kid who thought satan and evil was cool anymore. We all grow up differently, and this is my way!

MORBIDZINE: Which reasons have effected you to choose Sworn Records?

FREDIABLO: I knew James, the label manager from working with him when he released Hemnur on his other label Infernus Rex. He’s just a cool guy who does what he says he’ll do, and to me that is what it’s all about. Honest fucking pride!

MORBIDZINE: Gorelord is more sickener, grinder in every album, as far as we listened "Bloodshot Cadaver Apocalypse" till now, we saw more faster and groovier works. In your opinion, what are the innovations, developments for Gorelord's music on "Chapter IV - Hellbound" when it's compared with "Norwegian Chainsaw Massacre" era?

FREDIABLO: It’s groovier, faster, slower, more melodic and just overall better. The production is better. The lyrics are better, The riffs are heavier and the drums are chaotic and more complex! It’s all about the groove, and that is the most important element to me when it comes to creating music. The songs on the new album is also more structured than they were on NCM. At least to me they are.

MORBIDZINE: You have been combining the Old School Death Metal, Gore Metal, Black Metal perfectly and your sound also began to close Groove influenced metal (Groove Infested Norwegian HorrorCore) on latest albums. Was there an influence from bands like Pantera or others?

FREDIABLO: Definitely!! Pantera have always been one of my favourite bands, and my music… or the way I listen to music… or even write music have been influenced by them and what they did. I mean, they understood! They understood that groove is the key to killer music. Come live nothing can compare to a killer groove or a bad ass breakdown!! They had that in tons! There is also newer bands such as Despised Icon, Suicide Silence, White Chapel and The Red Chord to name some. These are new bands inspired by tons of music, and they combine it all into a massive musical monster. They are not limited to a genre tag, and that is what’s so good about these bands. They just create brutal music with groove and breakdowns!!

MORBIDZINE: If we talk the session from "Force Fed Human Flesh" to "Norwegian Chainsaw Massacre", can we say that you've wanted to decrease Black Metal elements on every album?

FREDIABLO: Hell yes!! Black metal is dead to me man! I no longer have any desire to play that style of music. I just don’t get anything from doing it anymore. Black metal to me has always been a laughable affair, but it was fun to play from time to time, and when I recorded FFOHF, I was way more into it than when I did NCM. These days I don’t listen to BM at all. I have thrown out all my Darkthrone albums along with anything that could be considered BM, and I now have only about 20-30 albums total left in my cd collection, ranging from Pantera to Rick Springfield. BM is just not my thing. Like cartoons. It’s fun but can’t compare to the real deal you know. Each to their own I guess.

MORBIDZINE: As if you prefered to use more modest covers on last two albums when they were compared with first two albums. What's your ideas?

FREDIABLO: Well, the album covers are also a reflection of my personal mindset. Less is more! Keep it simple and let the music do the talking. The music and lyrics have also changed through time, so having bloody zombies and horror on the cover would not represent me and my music according to reality. Still not sure the covers I have on myspace will be the final one though. I’m constantly changing stuff, and knowing myself, I will probably change it at least one more time.

MORBIDZINE: You have worked in many other projects like Wurdulak, Necrophagia, Hemnur, Soul Forsaken, Grimfist, Ave Sathanas etc... Although you have left some of these what are the difficulties for you about pursuing all? Will we see another surprise project or projects from Frediablo in future?

FREDIABLO: I just burned myself out back when I was doing all these different projects and bands at the same time. It was fun, but it was not healthy. I did it cause I felt I had so much different music in me that I wanted to express, and instead of blending it all into one or two bands or projects, I started or joined a new one for each musical outlet, and that backfired and I got fed up, and quit the whole fucking bunch. Right now I have Gorelord, and I recently rejoined Grimfist as well. So those two will be my main focus in the future…. musically. The need to express myself through music is not as important these days though. I have other things that are far more important to me than music. It’s all a question of priority. I choose to let music come second or third, unlike before when it was number one. Anyway, it’s all about having fun, and when the day comes that the fun is gone, I just walk away… no looking back!... just like that!!

MORBIDZINE: Why did you leave from Wurdulak? Concentrating more on Gorelord project? And do you think playing again with Wurdulak in future?

FREDIABLO: Wurdulak was always just a studio project and had no future from day one. Just a bunch of fucked up friends coming together playing some half ass black/thrash metal. Nothing serious at all. It was fun, but it was also moronic at it’s best. Still don’t understand the “hype” we got from those albums, cause in all honesty… well… they do really suck now don’t they?

MORBIDZINE: What's your favorite bands? Could you give us some examples? However what do you think about other horror-inspired theme bands?

FREDIABLO: My list of favourite bands/artists change daily. Nothing carved in stone. Right now I listen to Despiced Icon, Rick Springfield and Kurt Nilsen. Overall I probably listen to music for about an hour a week. It’s just not something I do anymore. I play it instead, although I do that even less. Much of the love I had for music is dead, and in many ways that’s sad, but in just as many ways it’s great, cause I can focus my time on more important things like my girlfriend, building our house, friends and family, and my two other passions in life… graphic design & photography. Music has just slowly faded away from me, but keeps kicking me in the ass from time to time. We’ll see how long it’ll keep kicking until I finally kick back. My all time favourite band though is Pantera! No one can touch those guys ever!! Don’t listen to horror/gore inspired bands. Have heard Cannibal Corpse, but they don’t “rock my boat” to be honest.

MORBIDZINE: We know horror/gore classics like "Zombie Flesh Eaters" and "Cannibal Holocaust" are specifics for you, can you say these movies are milestone for Frediablo's life? However which horror movies does Frediablo like mostly? Some examples...

FREDIABLO: No, those film are not milestones for me at all! They are cool, but nothing more. I prefer films like The Shining, The Exorcist, The Grudge (Japanese version only), and lately I have discovered my two new favourite films…. Death Proof and Planet Terror. Those films are truly works of fucking art!!

MORBIDZINE: We know you produced a short horror/gore movie. Well have you ever wanted to act in a horror movie till now or have you ever say to yourself "I wish I acted in that horror movie"?

FREDIABLO: I acted a part in that film. It was called Butcher Bob, and it was just a bloodfest a friend of mine and myself made.

MORBIDZINE: Are there any new projects from Fearbank?

FREDIABLO: Not at the present time no.

MORBIDZINE: I want to talk about your friendship with Killjoy. When and where did you meet or how did you connect with him?

FREDIABLO: I haven’t spoken to him since I toured the US with Necrophagia in 2005, so it’s not really a relationship anymore. We met in 1999 through the internet.

MORBIDZINE: How did you decide to play music together with Fug? When you began firstly, what is your missions? Did you think making horror-inspired music at that time?

FREDIABLO: Fug is my blood relative….my real brother, and I’ve been playing music with him for years and years!! He’s the one with the talent, and I’m the bum playing “one-string-chugga-chugga” riffs! He’s great and a brilliant guitarplayer. Steady as a rock although he goes through a pair of strings like Jack The Ripper went through hookers! Crazy ass motherfucker!!

MORBIDZINE: Are you planning to record new albums with your Old School Black Metal project called Hemnur?

FREDIABLO: No, not at the present time. If we do decide to do another album, it will be an instrumental ambient sounding affair. No more black metal ever!

MORBIDZINE: Frediablo, thanks again to spent your time for us. Do you want to send last message to Horror/Gore music fans?

FREDIABLO: I have a message for ALL fans! Don’t do fucking drugs! Don’t fall into the claws of religion! Be yourself no matter what people might say or think, and take good care of the people you love. We only get one chance at this, so spend your time wisely. Trust no one!!

Cheers and thanks for all your support!!
