On the Death of Kevin Mahoney...
Normally I don't care for those cliché R.I.P. statements or sentimental tributes, especially the exaggerated emotional reactions common in the Turkish metal scene. But in this case, I feel the need to write something short. Even just one release—Dropdead's self-titled record—was reason enough. Kevin Mahoney, one of hardcore's most legendary vocalists, has passed away. Alongside Seth Putnam, this marks the second major loss in the filthy grindcore world in just one year. Mahoney may not have left a massive discography, but his shrieking vocals injected venom into your veins with every listen. Few records in metal/punk history can claim such intensity. Siege was a huge influence on countless bands—and interestingly, both Mahoney and Putnam were once vocalists for Siege.
