After the phenomenal return with Engram, many wondered if Beherit would create something new—or if they were even working on anything at all. And suddenly, we’re faced with an album that has quite a curious backstory. What we’re dealing with here is a relic resurrected from the dusty shelves of the past—remastered and oozing with a sulfurous, boiling-over-the-cauldron type of sound that’s more than just noise; it’s a sonic plague echoing inside your skull and invading your veins.
The production is so raw and hellish, it genuinely feels like Nuclear Holocausto and Sodomatic Slaughter recorded this in Satan’s own studio. Fast forward to 2010, and—if I’m not mistaken—this material, long forgotten even by Sodomatic himself, is finally unearthed from his archive and brought into the light. Some say Mika from Impaled Nazarene had a copy of the tape at one point but supposedly destroyed it out of sheer respect for Beherit.
This release includes two previously unheard Beherit tracks—"At The Devil’s Churns" and "Whores Of Belial"—as well as unreleased versions of several others. Naturally, the anticipation is sky-high among fans.
That signature Beherit buzzsaw guitar tone, the demonic bellows and hisses from N.H. that feel like the devil himself is speaking through him, and the overall primitive sound dominate this release from beginning to end. Hearing seven familiar Beherit songs in these alternate forms is a unique experience on its own. For example, check out "Nocturnal Evil" or the serpentine whispering horror of "Witchcraft"—they slither right under your skin.
From the previously unreleased material, I especially loved the simplicity of the main riff in "At The Devil’s Churns". And the screaming guitar at 1:48? That’s the kind of thing that makes you lose your mind. The way the track ends with that chaotic solo is absolutely unhinged—in the best possible way.
Prepare to be dragged into pitch-black worlds. Apparently, Satan really was renting out studio time—and we just never knew it. That’s the only logical explanation for the haunting atmosphere this release conjures.
