It’s easy to compare many death metal bands to each other, but when it comes to Incantation (and a select few others), it’s almost impossible. Their masterpieces carve out a distinct identity with every release, following a path they set years ago and steadily rising year after year. Diabolical Conquest stands as one of those masterpieces, perfectly defining what Incantation is and how satanic death metal should sound!
The lineup features Daniel Corchado handling vocals, bass, and guitar, Kyle Severn on drums, and John McEntee on guitars. Kyle Severn has also played with notable unholy death metal acts like Vital Remains and Acheron, though honestly, Acheron isn’t really my scene.
First off, I have great respect for John McEntee’s guitar work—it’s far removed from any melodic fluff. Every riff on this album hits hard, ranging across doom, black, and death metal influences, with a guitar tone leaning somewhat toward black metal. While the band doesn’t focus heavily on guitar solos, each track’s catchy riffs more than make up for it and add a rich, full sound.
The drumming offers impressive variation and skillful performance. Kyle Severn’s ultra-fast blast beats drive each assault, perfectly complementing the guitars and earning well-deserved praise.
Corchado’s powerful, guttural vocals deliver an evil, deep, and unholy atmosphere. Lyrically, John McEntee’s impious words desecrate all divinities. The doomy riffs transport you to fog-shrouded graveyards, while the technical intelligence behind the song structures commands respect across every track.
Diabolical Conquest is a true masterpiece birthed from the depths of hell, vomiting pure hate against the beliefs of mankind!
